Looking to help SAFE more than just donating the stuffed animals you have personally? Are you part of a group or organization looking to help SAFE?
Host a stuffed animal drive!
Collect stuffed animals and donate them to one of our chapter members, one of our urgent needs locations, or find a place on your own to donate the stuffed animals. You can also build your own stuffed animals and donate them to SAFE. Whichever option you choose, you will be helping to comfort children during traumatic or emergency situations and SAFE thanks you for your help!
SAFE offers three types of stuffed animal drives that you can choose from: SAFE Drive, SAFE Birthday Drive, and a SAFE Corporate Drive. Pick which one works for you and follow the directions below!
Thank you so much for wanting to help, you really are making a difference to a child in a very stressful situation.
Are you a student or a person who needs to document your volunteer time? Please download the community service log below so you can keep track of the amount of time you have volunteered to help SAFE. If while doing a SAFE drive, donors want to donate money to SAFE, YOU MUST either send them to the website as we have a PayPal button on the "Home" page and the "About Us" page, or if they are writing a check or donating cash, you can mail this to the corporate headquarters of SAFE. You can get this address by clicking the button below which will take you to the "About Us" page where our address is listed.
Under NO circumstances, are you to solicit money in the name of SAFE and then keep the money.
Donors who are wanting to donate monetarily, are doing it under the understanding that you represent SAFE and that that money will make it to our headquarters. If you have any questions at all, you can email Jennifer at help@safe-inc.org. Thank you for understanding!
Below are the files you will need to complete your SAFE drive. Please click on the word "download" next to the file to save these documents to your computer. Thank you again for wanting to help!
1. You can donate to one of our chapter members, one of our urgent needs locations, or you can find a location on your own to donate to. Whichever place you decide to donate to, you need to contact them FIRST before starting your drive to make sure they can take a larger donation. If you are finding a place on your own, please download the "Possible Donation Locations" document for ideas.
2. Next, complete the survey below to let me know more about you or your organization and what your plans are for the drive. Also, please download all the items above as you will need them for the drive.
3. Figure out where you want to hold the drive, how you want to collect the donations, and how you want to market the drive. Please see the document, "Getting Organized For Your Drive" that you just downloaded.
4. It's time to start! As a general rule, do not hold a stuffed animal drive for longer than 2 weeks as you may receive more than you can handle! Please take pictures or videos along the way, we would love to see how the drive went when you are finished!
5. As a general rule, if an item still has tags or was part of a collection, we consider those "new" donations and it would just need freshened up (see our cleaning guide above). Everything else is considered "gently used". If your donations are going to one of our chapter members, you do not need to clean your gently used donations. If you are donating to one of our urgent needs locations or you have found a place to donate to on your own, you will need to clean any gently used donations. Please follow our cleaning guide above for complete details.
6. That's it, you're done! Congratulations on completing your drive! Please fill out the survey below to let me know how the drive went and how many donations you collected. SAFE will be emailing you a certificate of appreciation to say thank you!
Please email us any pictures or videos you took of the drive to help@safe-inc.org. Thank you so much for helping children feel SAFE in emergency situations!
2. Next, you need to decide whether you are going to be accepting gently used items to donate or whether you want to make new stuffed animals for your SAFE Birthday drive. If you are wanting to accept gently used donations, please follow the 'SAFE Drive' instructions above. If you are wanting to make brand new stuffed animals for your event, please read on!
3. Order some stuffed animals to build for your birthday party! Below are two companies that SAFE has approved to purchase buildable stuffed animals from. You are welcome to purchase them from other companies as well, you just need to make sure they are of good quality and that they do not have any parts that could easily come off and become a choking hazard.
4. Building stuffed animals is a lot easier than you think. There is no sewing involved! The back of the stuffed animal has a zipper and a Velcro cover. Just stuff, zip and close! You can buy the stuffing from the companies listed in step three or you can buy it in bulk at your local craft store. Each stuffed animal (depending on the size) needs about 3-5 ounces of stuffing. Just be careful not to overstuff! It may break the seam of the stuffed animal.
5. Because your donations are new and not gently used, no cleaning is required! Donate them to the place you had confirmed in step one. Please document how many stuffed animals were made so you can let SAFE know in the survey you need to fill out in step 6.
6. That's it! Thank you so much for doing your drive! Please fill out the survey below to let us know how the SAFE Birthday Drive went and where you donated.
Please send us any pictures or videos of your event to help@safe-inc.org, we would love to share them! To say thank you as well, we will be sending you a Certificate of Appreciation and an official SAFE pen for all your hard work!
